Breast implant or prosthesis removal

Dra. Ana Moreno’s cosmetic surgery clinic in Granada has extensive experience in removal of breast implants or prostheses as well as in the most complex implant replacement operations.

This surgery could be recommended by your surgeon (for example, in cases of repeated capsular contractures), or also requested by the patient who for aesthetic reasons does not want to have that volume or no longer wants to wear breast prostheses. A clear example of this is the arrival of the menopause, whose physical alterations sometimes lead to an increase in the size of the breasts. Some of our patients, at this point, prefer to reduce the size of their breasts.

The removal of breast implants or prostheses is an intervention that requires experience and a great aesthetic sense to achieve very good results. Each case must be assessed individually, depending on the patient’s characteristics and preferences.

It is compatible with other treatments to achieve an attractive aesthetic effect.

In many of these cases, we can consider compatibility with other treatments for a more satisfactory aesthetic result. It is very common for this procedure to be performed with mastopexy, i.e. a technique to lift the breast, either periareolar or complete mastopexy. We can also have the option of including our own fat in the breast to help avoid creating the effect of an “empty” breast.

Complementary treatments to breast implant removal

Dropping or sagging breast effect is a potential risk in any breast implant removal procedure. The good news is that we can take advantage of other treatments to eliminate this effect.

These are the situations we can deal with using breast implant or prosthesis removal and the possible complementary solutions:

  • When the breast is small: We can consider the option of leaving it after removing the implants, if the aesthetic effect is satisfactory.
  • When the breast is large: A mastopexy can be an optimal complementary treatment. It lifts sagging breasts and the patient achieves an attractive result.
  • When there is an empty breast effect: We can proceed to the insertion of adipose tissue with autologous fat (from the patient herself), to achieve the desired volume.

Breast Implant Removal Operation Time

  • Surgery time: 2 to 3 hours
  • Anaesthesia: Adapted to the needs of each patient.
  • Hospitalisation: will depend on each case
  • Recovery: 14 days
  • Final result: 3 months.
